Updating the Twinns

My Twinn Cai's custom Hanfu outfit was a fun challenge, and I really liked the final result. I did several photoshoots of her wearing it, with a few classic Chinese hairstyles.

But I felt that certain pieces of the Hanfu outfit still needed some improvements. So while I worked those out, I switched Cai's outfit to this pretty pink cheongsam by Carpatina.

I also made simple some hair ornaments for her, more suited to the simpler dress.

I love these pictures. Cai looks so cute in pigtails.

Pearl was also due for a wardrobe update. I wanted to make a few adjustments to her chut Thai. While I liked the result, I didn't feel it was quite ready for prime time.

And for a long time I've wanted to try out this gorgeous Qing dynasty gown from Carpatina on one of the Twinns.

The 18" soft-body version of the gown doesn't include the Qing dynasty headdress like the 18" , so I actually had to make my own. I used foam board, felt, and lots of little dangles and sparklies. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out; it's actually more detailed than the Carpatina version, so there's that.

I think Pearl looks beautiful in her Qing dynasty clothing. But it seems like she looks good in everything.

She's one of My Twinn's prettiest sculpts, in my opinion.

This is the second custom headdress I've made for Pearl, the first being the gold and jeweled Thai crown that went with her Thai outfit.

And while Cai and Pearl got new clothing and hair, Berkeley and Kim got a hair makeover as well.

Kim's hair is shorter, straighter, and a little harder to work with. But I love this look for her, and the way her Maang Tikka, or head jewel looks with her updone hair.

Kim is so pretty, and this one is so unique. I just love her thick eyebrows and amber colored eyes.

I also really loved learning how to arrange her Dupatta, or shawl, in different ways.

Berkeley's textured hair, while a little unruly, is very long and very versatile and I had a lot of fun creating different looks for her.

I started with this Geiko inspired, somewhat formal, hairstyle.

Then I tried a few, more casual looks. She wears them all really well.

In my opinion, Berkeley has the most natural look out of all the Twinns. To me she looks like a living, breathing girl sometimes. There's something very contemplative and serene in her expression.

Both Kim and Berkeley were originally wearing one of Carpatina's cultural outfits. I didn't feel there was a way to improve on that, so they kept them.

But I did have a little fun dressing the Twinns in modern fashion too.

Here is the progression of all the girls' classic looks.
